Holiday Hospitality - Team Perspective

Only a few short days are left to 2025 as 2026 is upon us. Over the past few months, we have discussed the steps of building your business plan and strategy for a profitable 2026. The new year is a new beginning and an opportunity to self-assess how we can improve as leaders. It may be a good time to challenge your performance by choosing your leadership perspective.

The journey of leadership is defined by countless decisions, and we don’t always make the correct decision - no one does. Perhaps the most crucial decision we make every day is choosing our perspective.

I recently came across the following list of many opposing realities that are often separated by nothing more than a shift in focus:

  • Sad has 3 letters, but so does Joy

  • Fall has 4 letters, but so does Rise

  • Curse has 5 letters, but so does Bless

  • Ignore has 6 letters, but so does Listen

  • Enemies has 7 letters, but so does Friends

  • Immature has 8 letters, but so does Maturity

  • Ignorance has 9 letters, but so does Knowledge

  • Negativity has 10 letters, but so does Positivity

As a leader, you constantly face two realities: the challenging situation itself, and the way you choose to interpret and respond to it.

  • The Reality of Fear (Fall, Curse, Sad): Focusing only on risk, loss, and what went wrong. This reality breeds caution and stifles innovation.

  • The Reality of Growth (Rise, Bless, Joy): Focusing on the lesson, the opportunity, and the potential for a breakthrough. This reality empowers your team and drives progress.

Great leaders understand that their job is to consistently choose and model the second reality. It’s not about ignoring problems; It’s about framing them as chances to learn and ascend. You have two realities to choose from. It’s up to you to decide which one you want your team to perform.

In 2026, choose the language that empowers. Choose the perspective that elevates. Choose the leadership that inspires.
